24 Oct 07 TMSA - Tanker Operator
| |
|   |
Aigli Zappeiou Zappeion Athens
| "TMSA and meeting oil major demands for experienced officers"
TMSA highlights a need for more competent, well trained, experienced officers. But you cant suddenly get more officers with ten years experience. Is it possible to accelerate officer development, supported by new information technology tools, and would oil majors be prepared to accept this? Is there a role for involving remote experts in shipboard decision making, as the oil and gas industry is starting to do?
This session is a continuation of the series of TMSA conferences organised by TANKEROperator magazine. It will be relevant to companies operating all ships (not just tankers).

5 May 06 The ISM on Trial (a mock trial)
| |
|   |
Metropolitan Hotel Athens
| On Friday 5 May 2006, The London Shipping Law Centre (LSLC) in co-operation with BIMCO will be holding the Annual LSLC/BIMCO Conference entitled “The ISM on Trial”. The event will take place in Athens, Greece. With the ISM documentation and the Safety Management System, it is not so much what the ship-owner or ship manager has documented in his files, but how far the ship and shore personnel have familiarized themselves with the procedures, training and implementation of instructions in compliance with the requirements of both the Code and the STCW convention. Conflicts in the recording systems, or inaccurate recording, will expose the company and its officers to scrutiny by claimants’ lawyers and the court. In this mock trial of the ISM documentation it will be revealed how lawyers can bring weaknesses of the ISM into light, how factual witnesses can cope in cross-examination and how an expert witness can become the best friend, or the worst enemy of a defendant, all depending upon how well the ISM systems have been implemented. The event has taken place in London on two occasions and has received excellent reviews from the Press and attending delegates.

2 Nov 05 Tanker Operator Europort 2005
|   |
AHOY Rotterdam
| This conference is for experts on tanker safety and quality, including from tanker operators, regulators and suppliers of equipment related to tanker safety and quality, who want to learn more about what leading tanker operators think about the oil companys TMSA initiative to encourage and reward continuous improvement, and how continuous improvement is achieved and measured in practise.
Most tanker operators are now well aware of the OCIMF TMSA initiative (Oil Companies International Maritime Forum Tanker Management Self Assessment) which aims to create a framework for continuous improvement for tanker operations, and enable oil companies to differentiate the tanker operators which continuously improve (rather than adopt the traditional maritime compliance culture).
Continuous improvement culture is seen as a better way to maintain quality operations than setting and enforcing rules (because people often find ways around them). But can charterers differentiate tanker operators, which adopt continuous improvement culture, and more importantly, will they be rewarded by having more lucrative cargoes?
This conference features quality managers and managing directors from OSG, NYK Shipmanagement, Seaworld Management, Andriaki Shipping, Athenian and Transocean, as well as consultants from K. C. Lyrinzis, Drewry and IBS. Chaired by Dimitris Lyras of Lyras Shipping and is sponsored by Ulysses Systems |

Mare Forums Ship Finance Conference succeeds because its vibrant mix of top shipowners and top financiers can interact without long speeches or boring product plugs. Mare Forum Ship Finance 2005, set for Amsterdam on Thursday October 27, will tackle the topics other conferences shy away from, with quality speakers, panelists and delegates who would shy away from other conferences.Ulysses Systems will be one of the main sponsors of the event. |

12 Sep 05 MARE FORUM 2005 Shipping in a responsible society. Quo Vadis?
|   |
Hilton Cavalieri Rome Italy
| Mr. Dimitri Lyras Advisor to the Board of Directors of Ulysses Systems, will be among the important speakers that will discuss about the proactive role of shipping industry in demostrating its importance to the world, its considerable achievents and the way it handles its responsibility to Society.Marine Industry needs a higher profile, emphasising the progress that is being made in tackling sub-standard ships, in meeting challenges of greater environmental responsibility, in developing better, more robust ships, satisfying the operational demands for shipping excellence and reducing the gaps between the very best shipping practitioners and those who still struggle with standards. The industry has done a great deal, but there is still more to be accomplished, and a distinct need to tell the world about this essential but invisible industry. Mare Forum 2005, to be held in Rome in September takes the form of a progress report, its now traditional high level conference bringing industry figures, regulators, users of shipping examining a range of the industrys unfinished business.
Ulysses Systems will be one of the main sponsors of the event. |

9 Jun 05 Tanker Operator NorShipping
|   |
Rainbow Arena hotel OSLO
| This conference will be held on Thursday of Norshipping week as part of Norshippings "leading voices" program and will be sponsored by Ulysses Systems.
The tanker industry has gone through some significant changes recently: excellent earnings, the realisation of the need to improve the image of the industry, and TMSA, a major step by the oil majors to support that voluntary quality initiatives are the only sustainable quality initiatives.
We invite speakers to suggest what significant changes they foresee with respect to tanker management between now and 2010. We hope this discussion will bring to the surface the pride of achievement that our industry has been reluctant to express for many years due to the expectation of minimal public recognition. |
