Ulysses Systems and Open Text Corp. form software development agreement
Ulysses' Task AssistantTM to support Open Text's Livelink
DETROIT18 June 2001: Ulysses Systems Inc., a leading provider of computer products and services, and Open Text Corporation, a worldwide leader in collaborative commerce software for e-business, today announced an agreement that will enable the integration of both companies' software.
Under the agreement, Ulysses' easy-to-use Task AssistantSM ship management software can now be integrated with Open Text's Livelink Web-based collaborative knowledge management system to provide a comprehensive solution for sharing critical shipping information. This strategic alliance enhances Ulysses' ability to deliver enterprise collaborative applications.
The combined solution encourages employee effectiveness and productivity by making unprecedented levels of enterprise knowledge available to Ulysses' maritime customers.
With the release of Task Assistant, Ulysses adds new modules for crewing, planned maintenance, accounts management and purchasing. A groundbreaking software system for ship management, Task Assistant details and documents the entire ship management process, step-by-step, task-by-task according to job function. The program provides shipboard personnel with a variety of forms and checklists, along with access to online manuals, documents, records or company communications they may need. It guides the user and keeps records of every interaction, including every message and every completed task.
Open Text's flagship product Livelink is entirely Web-based and delivers a fully integrated set of powerful enterprise services directly to users, including document and knowledge management, virtual team collaboration, information retrieval, business process automation, electronic forms, event notification and rendition support. Ready to install out-of-the-box, Livelink allows organizations to store, share and manage critical information and processes.
"Many of our maritime customers are divisions of significantly larger organizations that have already invested in world-class software such as Livelink," says Tom Leskie, Ulysses Systems CEO. "This agreement allows these customers to get additional benefits from their current software, and paves the way for using our Task Assistant technology to enhance the value of these investments in divisions outside of shipping."
"Ulysses' unique approach to IT in shipping sets it apart from its competitors," adds Andrew Pery, vice president of global marketing for Open Text. "Through our joint initiative, Open Text and Ulysses are working together to improve information sharing within the shipping industry. Using a portable device or desktop, workers at all levels will gain access to the business critical content they need, when they need it".
